Step 6: Enter Additional Information if Required

If you are filing for the same business, you can continue to the next step. But if there is a new business that requires e-filing, make sure you enter the new business details as well.

Step 7: Filing Details

You will need to mention the tax period and the first used month, which is the first month your client’s truck operated on the US public highways during the tax period. Check the box for the final return if this is their final return.

Step 8: Vehicle Details

Specify the vehicle type, taxable gross weight, tax amount, and VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), a 17 digit number used to identify the vehicle. Also, mention if their vehicle is a logging vehicle as such vehicles have a lower tax rate compared to other heavy vehicles.

Step 9: Tax Summary

Entering incorrect bank details, missing signature, incorrect VIN number, or mileage error could lead to rejection by the IRS. So, make sure you review the information one last time for any errors before you click submit.     You can also make the payment through your debit/credit card by entering the card number and other details. This mode of payment is safe as does not save the user card details.
  • Money Order/Check
    The last option allows you to make a payment to the United Nations Treasury.

    1. Provide the phone number, EIN, and IRS form 2290 with the check/money order.
    2. Take a print out of the payment voucher of form 2290.
